My YOTA = My Year Of Taking Action
Have you ever felt that life was passing you by and you were still no closer to achieving your biggest dreams or desires. And that’s not to say you’ve had a shitty life, or that you haven’t achieved great things, but still something feels like it’s missing or not everything that it could be.
How do you know this, because of the empty space within you which has you searching for something more...and you’re not even sure what that more is. On the surface it might look like you have everything, and yet there’s a yearning within you that needs to be heard and needs to be seen.
Perhaps you tell yourself that you’ve been waiting for the kids to get a bit older, or for your workload to ease off, or to have more time in your day, or you need more knowledge, or more something...
Let‘s be honest, there’s never going to be a perfect time. If you’re really honest with yourself - not one of those things will really make a difference, sure it might make it a bit easier but if it’s not one thing holding you back then it will be something else.
How many of you had plenty more time on you’re hands in 2020 with the pandemic restrictions and still didn’t get started on your path?
Realistically when you dig down within yourself, fear is probably the biggest reason why you havent yet achieved your biggest dreams or goals. Fear of not knowing enough, fear of what people might say, fear of judgement, fear of failing, fear of succeeding, fear of doing something for yourself, it’s just fear plain and simple no matter how you dress it up.
Much like putting lipstick on a pig, underneath it’s still a pig.
In my early twenties I suffered from the most excruciating anxiety and panic attacks. Anxiety so big that it kept me shut up in the house, afraid of my own shadow, fearful to do anything new or to step outside of my comfort zone. Try visualising all of that angst with a toddler, a child starting school and a baby on the way. Put simply it was that nasty F word again which I've spoken about previously...F.E.A.R
I know what it feels like to want to throw up from anxiety, or how it feels when you’re breathing too hard and then your head is spinning so fast it makes you fearful you’ll faint.
My earlier years of living with anxiety have shown me that action is one of the best solutions for FEAR.
In my horror days, the actions I took are what put me back on the right track to achieving my goals and dreams. It took bucket loads of self development work and reaching deep down within and being honest with myself. And two books - ‘Living with It‘ and ‘Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway’ in particular, which helped give me the tools I needed to take action and stop living in fear.
That‘s not to say fear ever goes away, but as those books showed me, you learn how to live with it and you feel the fear and do it anyway.
This is my year of taking action (My YOTA), and in the lead up to my 50th birthday in November there’s a few more dreams and desires which need serious action taking for me to achieve them. And if you’re one of those people who subscribe to words for your coming year instead of setting New Years resolutions, well then you’ll probably appreciate my word for 2021 is ACTION.
And note this is not the running around like a crazy woman kind of taking action, it’s the inspired and intuitively guided type of action. The kind of action which generates all the feels within you because it makes your heart sing and your soul sparkle and because you know you're making a big positive difference in your life and in others lives..
So my question now for you - what’s stopping you from achieving your greatest dreams or desires - and let me give you a tip, it’s not money or knowledge or time...it’s you. The only thing stopping you from achieving your dreams is you, the rest is just energy.
So what ACTION do you need to take this year to make this a YOTA year for you?
